Review of Bully (2011) by Sarah . — 08 Mar 2009
Ok before I get into my rant I will mention the things that were good about this movie. Personally I think Nick Stahl did the best job out of the lot of them. The story itself was interesting, and the ending was good. There werent any real twists or anything but it was interesting to watch. It was acted well in the sense that all the actors seemed to genuinely feel the emotions they portrayed - not just an actor pretending.
Now for my rant. There was far too much unnessisary partial & full frontal nudity. I understand that perhaps this makes it seem more real, but honestly do we really need to see a girl sitting on a toilet - naked - take a pregnancy test, wipe herself, then walk around (revealing everything)? And the same girl is later seen talking on the phone while naked. And a couple has a chat - while wrapped in each others arms naked. Why do we need to see that? Cant they be wearing clothes? I was surprised too that there actually is a moment that Brad Renfro is kissing/sucking a females nipple. Im sorry thats a bit much dont you think? And now, I predict that some people would say to me, "why are you so against it in this movie, when the film shortbus had so much more and you were okay with that?" well that is because that movie is about sex, and the sex and nudity expressed more to the audience about the characters. Unlike in this film where it is about murder, and the nudity was not needed, and in many cases, as formentioned, unnessicary. So yes, although the story was rather interesting, a majority of the nudity was rather uncalled for in my book.
