Review of Bullitt (1968) by Chad T — 22 Jul 2008
A true classic that's always worth coming back to. McQueen's performance is sophisticated and mature in its minimalism--no cute one-liners, ironic quips, or Bruce Willis-style mugging from our hero, which comes across as refreshingly authentic in contrast to most of the juvenile dreck out there right now.
The car chase is as good as ever, but it's all the more effective because it stands out against a backdrop vibe of quiet, self-contained, streamlined cool. Watch it again not for the car chase, but for McQueen's sheer presence on the screen.
