Review of Bullitt (1968) by Jordan P — 13 Feb 2010
Darn good movie. Steve McQueen is great as Lt. Frank Bullitt and Robert Vaughn as a pesky politician riding Bullitt hard over the course of a violent weekend. The movie shares a few of odd stylistic tics with other late-60s and early-70s cop movies, such as minimal characterization--which makes Bullitt's girlfriend a bit of a cipher--and somewhat sloppy cinematography.
It reminded me a lot of Dirty Harry, but between the two I'd pick Bullitt any day. The car chase through the valleys of San Francisco is justly famous and the final chase and shootout at the airport is tense.
Good stuff.
