Review of Bullitt (1968) by Kevin R — 09 Sep 2010
Castrate him!
Bullitt is a police officer that has been assigned to protect a star witness that is scheduled to testify against a local crime boss. Unfortunately, the witness is gunned down. Bullitt takes the case in his own hands and hunts down the man responsible for the dead witness.
?You work your side of the street and I?ll work mine.?
Peter Yates, director of Summer Holiday, The Hot Rock, Krull, The Deep, Suspect, and An Innocent Man, delivers Bullitt. The storyline for this picture is fairly common but delivered in an interesting and unique manner. Steve McQueen delivers the main character perfectly and delivers the ultimate tough guy performance. McQueen is aided by an impressive supporting cast that includes: Robert Duvall, Norman Fell, Robert Vaughn, and Jacqueline Bisset.
?I have an officer with a family and he?s shot up pretty bad.?
I have recently become a fan of Steve McQueen and had to see this since it is one of his most renowned pictures. While the film was interesting and well delivered, there were too few action sequences. The main car chase is outstanding and amongst the greatest ever delivered (Dodge Charger versus Ford Mustang). I strongly recommend seeing this movie if you?re a fan of muscle car pictures and old school action movies.
?All I?m interesting in are results.?
Grade: B+.
