Review of Bullet Train (2022) by Compi24 — 07 Aug 2022
Although I felt it struggled mightily out of the gate, "Bullet Train's" unabashed flair and cheeky absurdism eventually found a place inside this reviewer's cold, petrified little heart. Director David Leitch manages to keep things moving at a decent clip and even the screenplay at hand -- though occasionally beleaguered by many a subplot and convolution -- has a couple neat little thematic tricks up its sleeve.
Brad Pitt may be a little bit miscast in this, but the man's simply impossible to dislike onscreen. Add in a disarmingly bombastic finale and you get one of the more unique cinematic experiences of the year for me.
This thing had a tough hill to climb at times and I'm glad to say it more than surmounted it in the end.
