Review of Bugsy Malone (1976) by Ross M — 27 Dec 2008

You would think having a cast of kids being rammed down your throat for a duration of 100 minutes would annoy you beyond annoyance. But the surpirse is, they are all actually good.

An unusual film to cast just children in key roles but it was pulled off nearly flawlessly. There is some very catchy songs in this charming musical along with some good dialogue and action. Although the structure of the film seems quite bad based on the placing of the songs it doesn't bring the film down too much and is still a joy to watch.

I enjoyed the spoof of gangster films very much and the sets are pitch perfect. There are some funny scenes and it is well directed by Alan Parker although I do feel that although it is a family films, you would understand it more having actually seen a gangster thriller.

Not the best musical I have ever seen but it is delightful in its own charming and unique way.
