Review of Buffalo '66 (1998) by Sam P — 11 Apr 2012
This happens to be one of my friends favourite films, and he really wanted me to watch it, so one day, thatâ(TM)s what we did.
Now, first off all, I thought it was a good film, which whilst I would not go out of my way to watch again, I can accept as being very good. The direction, above all else, was brilliant, any scene that could have been very average became awesome due to the directing, Gallo showed good talent with the camera, that I will give him. Vincent himself though, I spent the film not liking, he wasnâ(TM)t at all appealing, now sometimes that is because of a good actor, but with him, and all the stories of his ego, it could be he literally played himself. However, it was an interesting performance.
Christina Ricci was almost damaged in her portrayal, she seemed very broken, which with the info from her afterwards about how she was trated, who knows, maybe Vincent Gallo enforced method style on her, but sheâ(TM)s also good in this. These two pretty much carry the film, it is just them, and in fact they work well together, however they will never work together again following this film.
Itâ(TM)s a film that needs to be seen at least once, so you can almost appreciate it, however, at the end, I didnâ(TM)t think to myself âIâ(TM)d want to watch that againâ?.
