Review of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) by Kyle D — 21 Oct 2007
Welcome to a brave new world of Clods and Monsters. Conceived as a gimmicky joke for flagging yuksters Abbott and Costello, this film has become a classic with good reason.
Possibly the genesis of the "horror-comedy" genre, A&CMF is also a great old-school monster movie. The Dracula vs. Wolfman throwdown is miles btter than the Frank vs. Wolfman rumble from the film of the same name, and Bela Lugosi admirably hams up his only rteturn to the role that made him famous. Add in Lon Chaney Jr. acting as if no one bothered to tell him this was an Abbot & Costello flick and you get mandatory viewing for classic monster fans. Also a great way to ease young ones into Classic monster fandom.
