Review of Bud Abbott and Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) by Tim M — 09 Nov 2011
Universal's first in it's line of teaming their popular comedic duo with their popular monsters and the best of the team-ups. Hilarious throughout the film with witty dialogue, clever jokes, and fun slapstick humor.
Abbott and Costello dispense with a lot of their popular gags and focus on quips and jokes that fit the plot and their characters. Lugosi reprises his infamous role as Count Dracula who wants to control the Frankenstein monster with a lady scientist's help by putting Costello's simple brain in the monster.
Lon Chaney, Jr. reprises his infamous role as Larry Talbot, the Wolf Man, who has learned of Dracula's plan and recruits Abbott and Costello into helping him try to stop the monsters. A well thought out plot that comes out good in the film.
Barton brings good direction to the film and the set designs are great. The film moves at a nice solid pace never losing interest and culminating in a hilarious, yet somewhat intense climax worthy of both Universal series.
