Review of Buck (2011) by Ryan O — 03 Jan 2012
I'm at a loss for words about this fantastic documentary profiling the man who was the inspiration for the novel "The Horse Whisperer" and who also served as a consultant on the film of the same name. Buck Brannaman has taken the dark events of his life and utilized them to form a bond with one of the Earth's most majestic animals - the horse. His story from humble beginnings, an abusive father and "star" cowboy as a child lend credence to his horse whispering ways.
Viewers will find Buck's philosophy on life easily applicable to any type of relationship - whether it's human to human or human to animal -- the key focus of Buck's practice is how leadership is developed with a mutual understanding, respect and compassion. Buck is a magical story of how one man's negative and often violent upbringing can have truly positive results. It's hard not to look at Buck with sympathy and feel sorry for him - yet, he doesn't look at it that way.
Buck is a GREAT story -- that should be viewed by everyone - horse lovers and non-horse lovers alike.
One of the best documentary films of 2011.
