Review of Bubba Ho-tep (2002) by Lee R — 25 Jun 2009
This is a classic slice of cult hokem starring the living legend that is Bruce Campbell. Bruce plays Elvis Presley, still considered dead by the rest of the world it turns out that Elvis decided to take a break from fame so swapped lives for a little while with an impersonator only to have said impersonator die on the toilet.
Strange events unfold when the residents of the retirement home the Kings has ended up in start getting bumped off by a 3000 year old Mummy that likes to suck its victims souls out of there Arseholes.
Elvis decides to go out fighting despite the growth on the end of his dick, so he teams up with his only friend in the home, a black guy convinced that he is JFK who was shot and then dyed black. I have seen this film so many times and love the way its so daft that its almost genius.
Bruce plays the King brilliantly, one legend playing another. Its just a shame that he isnt returning for Bubba Nosferatu, as much as I like Ron Pearlman I cant imagine him being as good as Mr Campbell.
This is a wonderfully stupid, brilliantly funny movie that pretty much passed under the radar but should definatly be watched if your a fan of both Bruce Campbell and dumb comedy horror.
