Review of Bubba Ho-tep (2002) by Fraser M — 20 Sep 2011
Elvis and JFK, both alive and well in a nursing home that's being haunted by a cowboy-boot wearing mummy. Now, if that's not the most original thing I've heard all year, then I don't know.
And so begins Bubba Ho-Tep, a great little low-budget horror-comedy that appeals to those kinds of people who love movies, who love the freedom you're given when making a movie. Normally, a movie like this wouldn't work, but somehow Don Coscarelli manages. It's amusing and very, very funny, and even though it's routine and kinda formulaic, there's plenty of wit and creativity on display here.
Bruce Campbell does a great job as Elvis. There is some great chemistry between him and Ossie Davis, and that's another reason why Bubba Ho-Tep so enjoyable.
