Review of Brute Force (1947) by Jonah B — 29 May 2007
"Nobody escapes. Nobody ever really escapes." Despite its title sounding like a Steven Segal flick, this film is fantastic. Lancaster is always great and I'm not sure Hume Cronyn ever does better than this sadistic prison captain.
Not as good as "The Shawshank Redemption" or "Cool Hand Luke", but it might be the third best prison movie out there... and for 1947 its both incredibly dark and sophisticated.
