Review of Brüno (2009) by Jack B — 07 Oct 2012
It's almost too easy to get caught up in the controversy and big laugh scenes (Programe pitch) but the problem with the film is that mid-way it takes its unlikably shallow character and tries to force its audience to like him.
The parody of celebrity culture and the falseness of the publicized image industry is effective but the big laughs Borat delivered in abundance are more scatter-shot here. Good and worth watching but following Coen's Borat, leaves Bruno looking slightly bare by comparison.
