Review of Brother Bear (2003) by Denise S — 10 Sep 2011
Brother Bear was a great movie for children and adults as well. It's the story about a young Native American named Kenai who was in a hurry to grow up. He wanted nothing more to prove that he was a man and ready to move higher up the totem pole.
One day while out hunting with his older brother Sitka, they ran across a mother bear who was protecting her cubs. Sitka is killed in the process by the mother bear. Kenai sets out to seek revenge on the bear who killed his brother. As he avenged his brother's death he was magically transformed into a bear. It was if the Spirits was trying to teach him a lesson.
He began to see things through the eyes of the bears. He realized that they were just as afraid of us as they were them. He ended up befriending the deceased mothers orphan cub Kota. He also befriended a couple of crazy moose he gave the otherwise kind of deep movie some light spots of comedy relief.
At the end of the movie, Kenai saw his brother's spirit at the place where the lights meet the earth and had the opportunity to be changed back into his human self.. However, he knew Kota needed him so he chose to remain a bear.
I highly recommend this movie to the young and old alike. There is something in it for everyone.
Over all this movie was a great example of the Indigenous people and their roles in society.
