This film seems like an allegory for russian culture more than entertainment. danila is a resourceful and violent character, but he also loves music and the company of women. comparing this film to recent ones, it reminds me of no country for old men and eastern promises.
from its own decade, perhaps luc besson's the professional is closest, but with different social dynamics and budget constraints.
