Review of Brooklyn's Finest (2010) by Robert F — 09 Aug 2010
Pretty boring most of the time, for me at least. It's overwrought and overlong, and I guess we were supposed to be dazzled by all the stars in it, but quite honestly not one them really adds anything special, even a foul mouthed little role from Ellen Barkin doesn't do anything but add to the stink.
If they had used a bunch of unknowns it might have been better for what it wanted to be, a sort of gritty slice of life of three Brooklyn cops etcetera. Richard Gere is in particular pathetic. I guess that's the way his role was written, but I don't have to like it.
The movie wants to be bigger than its britches, and it just can't hold up. Cut out about a half hour of ponderousness and pointlessness, and it might be better.
