Review of Brooklyn's Finest (2010) by Ha H — 27 Sep 2010
At first look at the trailer for this, you think to yourself that Antoine Fuqua is pretty much remaking Training Day, his most successful film to date, only this time in Brooklyn rather than L.A. Then you watch the film and realize he's not remaking a film about a corrupt cop, he's telling another story altogether (story's, technically) about the law and those who break it.
There's nothing new or fresh in this movie, even the unrelated stories all connecting at the conclusion has been done many times before. But it is well done. Fuqua is a solid director sometimes and he's solid with what he does here. The acting's great, Richard Gere is especially impressive in this. The story is interesting and engaging, despite its unoriginality, and the end of the movie is just crazy and nuts. Very good, very dark, very violent.
