Review of Brooklyn Rules (2007) by Jess C — 02 Jul 2007

A good buddy/coming of age movie with Freddie Prinze Jr., Alec Baldwin, and Scott Caan. While the story is ok, the movie feels more like an episode of the Sopranos, which isn't really surprising with Terrance Winter, a writer from the Sopranos, writing and producing this movie. Michael Corrente handles the directing. The imagery is good, and the movie flows well, handling a few unexpected detours well. While there are no obvious flaws in the movie, it takes too freely from The Godfather, the Sopranos, GoodFellas, and every other mob show of the last 30 years, there is nothing really new about it. While a bit tamer than most, it certainly rates a viewing, but I am not sure I'd include it in my own video collection.
