The advertised love triangle never takes off and we're left with a slightly anaemic performance from Saoirse Ronan as a girl who embarks on a new life adventure in the New World. The problem is that the struggle never feels real, it's all too romanticised to make an impact.
Typical Oscar-bait drama that sticks to the safe and known.
