Review of Brooklyn (2015) by Sherri O — 29 Jan 2016
Brooklyn is a beautifully told story with an all star lead performance. Saoirse Ronan shines in the lead role. She definitely earned her Oscar nomination. Emory Cohen was also exceptionally good in his role as the Italian boyfriend.
I really liked the production design. It really felt like I was in 1950s Brooklyn. I enjoyed the story. The screenplay was very good. The movie is a little slow at points. I think there are some other movies that could've took a Best Picture nomination.
While I liked the story, sometimes it wasn't as interesting at parts than it should've been. It also isn't the most original movie in the world. I wouldn't like this movie as much if it wasn't for such a strong leading performance.
This is still a very good film anchored by an amazing lead performance.
