Review of Brooklyn (2015) by Russell B — 02 Mar 2016
I just loved this movie so much. Everything about it was amazing: the costumes, the script, the acting, the... all of it. Saoirse Ronan plays Éilis Lacey, a young Irish immigrant coming to Brooklyn, NY, in hopes of creating a new life for herself. She meets rough but sweet Italian plumber Tony (Emory Cohen), and they fall in love. However, when duty calls, Éilis has to return to Ireland, where she finds Jim Farrell (Domhnall Gleeson), and she finds herself falling for him.
While from this standpoint, the film seems pretty cliché, it's still very unique and incredibly sweet. Ronan and Cohen are brilliant in their respective roles, and Nick Hornby does a great job of interpreting the novel and writing their roles extremely well. Overall, this movie stands out among other "romantic" movie, and is one of the best movie of 2015.
