Review of Bronson (2009) by Sam P — 11 Apr 2012
Having originally seen Tom Hardy impressing in both The Take and Inception, I was really looking forward to his performance in this film. I wasnâ(TM)t sure what to expect thoughâ¦.
Overallâ¦.I enjoyed it, I thought Tom Hardy was quite frankly amazing in this role, it was almost a Daniel Day-Lewis level in terms of immersion. He bulked himself up by quite a bit, shaved his head off, grew the moustache, and several times went completely naked on screen in graphic detail. During the film he would narrate face to face with the camera, several times appearing on stage in an almost comedian-esque role, portraying himself very strangely, and then his scenes in character with several others where he seemed very unbalanced, believably liable to suddenly fly off the handle at any second.
However, despite how well Tom Hardy played the role, I think the film itself was only above average, the rest of the cast only average, the script very common and run-of-the-mill, and it was the amazing performance by Tom Hardy that made it so appealing. A film I would recommend solely for Hardyâ(TM)s performance.
