Review of Bronson (2009) by Andy S — 05 Nov 2012
A very dark yet interesting film on the tortured life of the most famous prisoner in England, "Charles Bronson". A truly brilliant performance from Tom Hardy is the focal point of the film, especially in his interior monologues that open the film.
It's difficult to watch as Charlie descends in to madness as his encounters turn more and more confrontational and violent. His isolation as punishment for his actions slowly get smaller and smaller to the point of absurdity at films end.
Sadly, there is no redemption of any kind for this lost soul as he destroys every attempt anyone makes to try and help him. Nicolas Winding Refn is a very strong visual director here. His use of music is outstanding as well.
This is a strong yet disturbing film that is not for the faint of heart. I am glad to see that Tom Hardy is getting the props her deserves with better roles there days in bigger films (Inception, Dark Knight Rising).
After seeing BRONSON I can easily see how his BANE will be a very brutal character.
