Review of Bronson (2009) by Romeo H — 09 Nov 2012
As much as I idolize Tom Hardy, "Bronson" didn't hit the right notes with me. As cinematically clever, hardcore, and intriguing as it is, Bronson didn't deliver home hard as I thought it would in terms of satisfaction, and probably isn't one I'd be excited to watch again.
Hardy was brilliant and highly emotive, and the play of camera shots and sounds satisfied the filmmaker inside of me. I immensely respect how they made it more of a theatrical piece rather than a regular hardcore film, and I can really understand how Hardy got the part of Bane from this.
However I really only saw the story of Charles Bronson as a man with no real talent who enjoyed fighting policemen naked. The story was confusing, I got lost a little, questioned at how some parts were relevant, and extremely uncomfortable with the adultery in it.
I did enjoy a few scenes in the film (Hardy's exposed penis definitely NOT one of them *shudder*) but for a prolonged amount it was only a story bout a thug that never really went anywhere and made me confused, uncomfortable and a little bored.
