Review of Broken Flowers (2005) by Jim D — 01 May 2009

This is perhaps my favorite Bill Murray film. I remember thinking as I walked out of the theater that if you edited out all the prolonged close ups of Bill Murray's expression the film would have been half as long.

But! There is a purpose to the technique. You would think that Alexis Dziena still the scene where she walks into the room totally nude but the extended shot of Bill Murray's expression takes it right back.

Throughout the film one can imagine what he is thinking in these 'indulget' shots of his expressions. Murray is paired with director Jim Jamusch in this brilliant story with a seemingly simple plot.
