Review of Broken Flowers (2005) by Morten N — 15 Dec 2011
Another excellent existential journey directed by Jim Jarmusch. The focus of this adventure is Bill Murray's "aging Don Juan" set on his mission by busy-body neighbor (and mystery novel enthusiast) Jeffery Wright.
The casting is pitch perfect. The film taps into Jarmusch's favorite vibe: the minimalist approach, slow pace, realistic camera work and timing along with a dream-like quality and full of idiosyncrasies.
The "off-beatness" of the story is sometimes a touch forced (as in his other films as well) but this is a truly great picture, another in a long line of excellent Jarmusch films.
