Review of Broken City (2013) by Justin M — 22 Feb 2013
A Political thriller that pits an anti-hero ex-cop (Walberg) against the all powerful and equally corrupt Mayor of NYC (Crowe) in the lead roles wiith Catherine Zeta Jones appearing throughout but not in a starring role.
The movies plot and story carried well from beginning to end with a few surprises and twists throughout. This political thriller has generally recieved bad reviews and I believe it to be because you would generally expect more from this A-List cast if Walberg, Crowe, and Jones.
I believe had the roles been given to lesser known actors expectations would have been lower and it would have garnered better reviews. I all in all enjoyed the film. It is in my opinion more than watchable and almost two hours I don't feel were wasted.
If you are in the mood for a movie about corruption and the darker side of politics check it out, it is a much better film than the critics and audience would leave you to believe. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.
I think if they would have added more action, or just a better narrative I would have rated it higher but I believe they didn't intentionally instead going to realism. Anyways, check it out, it isn't bad.
