Review of Broken Blossoms or The Yellow Man and the Girl (1919) by Amanda M — 13 Jan 2008
Pretty offensive...they call the asian character "The Yellow Man", "Chink" or "Chinky" throughout. But I mean what do you expect from the man who made "Birth of A Nation?" Actually, despite the racial slurs, it's pretty sympathetic towards the asian character.
Maybe it's an apology of sorts for BoaN? Probably not...Way ahead of its time from a technical standpoint though. Also, Lilian Gish like a mofo! Represent Springfield...ha.
