Review of Brokeback Mountain (2005) by Gayle R — 13 Jan 2013
The story of a secret love affair between two cowboys. Ang Lee's film looks like a deeply rooted American film, with its cinematography that takes full advantage of its spectacular settings. But the biggest achievement of this film was perhaps taking the themes of homosexuality to a more mainstream circuit, which up to then had been either exploited or still restrained to the more underground movement known as New Queer Cinema.
The performances by Ledger and Gyllenhaal are brave and compelling.
