Review of Brokeback Mountain (2005) by Eytan D — 27 Jul 2013
Whatever you do, don't call it a "gay cowboy movie". "Brokeback Mountain" has a much deeper, more heartbreaking story at its core than just simply about being two cowboys who fall in love.
The movie is about friendship, secrecy, and the struggle to commit in a world that doesn't understand the type of relationship Jack and Ennis have. The always terrific Ang Lee directs the film with beauty, dedication, and passion.
The script is A-grade, and the performances of the cast are all rock solid. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's not just a Western. "Brokeback Mountain" is a haunting drama that works best because of its story.
