Review of Broadway Danny Rose (1984) by Corey C — 27 Jul 2008
I would venture to say this is one of Woody Allen's least known films but one of his best. Hilarious and very different from most of his films, Broadway Danny Rose is such a simple tale, it creates an easy magic of a by-gone time and talent.
It's also some of the best chemistry I've ever seen Allen create with Mia Farrow who does a great Jersey-trash mob moll character. What's most shocking about this film though, is the ending which though downbeat is so true to life, it makes one wonder if the biggest joke in the film is Allen pretending everything is alright.
The complexity of it all is what makes this a great film but sadly, one that is always passed over.
