Review of Broadway Danny Rose (1984) by Todd S — 03 Feb 2006
There are some who hate Woody Allen movies. There are some who love Woody Allen movies. There are some who like his movies - I am in that camp.
I recently saw this flick with a buddy who LOVES Woody Allen - he loves his schtick, his mannerisms, his humour, his acting. Hence, he chuckled and smiled throughout this movie. I, on the other hand, don't mind Woody, in fact I find him kinda cute and funny. Hence, I only liked this movie but wouldn't see it again on purpose..

Why? He gives me a headache but not really in a bad way just in a I-can't-take-much-more-of-your-jitterish-behaviour kinda way. Again, this is what separates me from those who love/hate him. I find his scenes involve a lot of people talking over each other and it becomes distracting. At first it's effective to convey a mood but after a while it feels overused..

This is a simple tale of a tale about a shmutz manager of crappy entertainment acts who finally manages someone who could "go somewhere" and is rewarded for his loyalty with betrayal. Poor Woody, doesn't anything ever go well for him? Nope, and that's why you either love him or hate him (or sit on the fence like me). .
