Review of Broadcast News (1987) by Justin Z — 16 May 2009
Broadcast News is a sweet romantic satire that finds the heart and humanity even in the most vapid talking head, but it also has the courage to reveal what's wrong when no-brain hacks take the jobs of seasoned veterans.
Luckily, Albert Brooks and William Hurt don't play their roles as broadly and symbolically as they could have (also, credit James L. Brooks's screenplay). Holly Hunter is also good as the producer who completes the romantic triangle.
Three dimensional portrayals all around. Jack Nicholson stops by for a laugh.
