Review of Broadcast News (1987) by Luc L — 14 Nov 2010

James L. Brooks satirical film about the T.V. news industry is funny but not as affective or as involving as it could have been. The movie's main flaw is that there is no real chemistry between the two main romantic leads.

Hurt's character comes off as a meat head with occasional moments of extreme creepiness, like a sociopath who doesn't understand the emotions of normal humans(plus Hurt is a very dry/boring actor usually).

Hunter's character is robbed of likability by the fact that she's constantly abandoning her principles merely for the sake of a relationship that doesn't make any sense within the story (which ends up making the character selfish and annoying despite a "save the cat moment" at the end which seemed totally forced and came a little too late).

Albert Brooks steals the movie as the hilariously sarcastic, Aaron, a perpetual loser. Had the movie focused on him I would have loved it.
