Review of Broadcast News (1987) by Robert I — 15 Jan 2013
Love triangle emerges between a competitive D.C. TV news producer, her erudite confidant, and the dim anchor. Quite funny, and deliciously witty thanks to an excellent script. The three leads are terrific; each of them are admirably flawed personalities, which makes them all the more realistic and engaging.
Despite being made in the 80s, the story and subject matter concerning honest journalism is absolutely timeless. One could easily mistake the writing for Golden Age romantic comedies that somehow managed to transplant itself into a more modern decade.
Good, warmhearted stuff.
