Review of Bringing Up Baby (1938) by Matthew N — 03 Jan 2011
Howard Hawks pulled two incredible comedic performances out of Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant in this zany, borderline-nonsensical screwball comedy. Grant stars as David Huxley, a zoologist waiting for a bone for his museum, and by several bizarre coincidences meets Susan Vance, the niece of a wealthy woman who is willing to donate a million dollars to David's museum.
The two have strange misadventures together that involve the strangest of people--not the least of which is a tame leopard named Baby. Simultaneously side-splitting hilarious and nauseatingly quick, Bringing Up Baby is enjoyable, exhausting, and very, very funny.
