Review of Bringing Up Baby (1938) by Ross M — 08 Jan 2011
Could Golden-Age Hollywood escapism come any better? The snowballing plot that gets increasingly out of control is a joy to watch. Eventually you empathise with the clueless characters involved, soon becoming as involved and confused as they are, without the film ever becoming frustratingly complex.
Instead, you begin to question what has happened and will happen just as the characters involved find themselves doing. All this within the safe hands of director Howard Hawks, who ensures that you never become too lost inside such a marvelously exaggerated story.
