Review of Bringing Up Baby (1938) by Bill B — 13 Jan 2012
Uptight paleontologist Cary Grant ends up in hijinx with Katharine Hepburn in this one, which involves her raising a leopard, which seems completely safe, right?
I enjoy these screwball things, but I also find Hepburn's character a bit exhausting in this, as the casual chaos spread in her wake continually fucks up Grant's life and she seems to think that it's somehow HIS fault, which I know is the essence of the joke, but it's just Goddamned irritating to see anyone that oblivious to their surroundings, in fiction or in life itself.
Maybe I'm too sensitive to that sort of thing.
Probably just a rental for me, unless I find it super-cheap for some reason.
