Review of Bringing Up Baby (1938) by Kevin R — 09 Jul 2010
An entirely madcap, totally bizarre, yet infinitely watchable comedy that proves once again that time is no barrier to anyone's enjoyment of a film. At the helm you have two of cinema's all time greats in the unstoppable Katherine Hepburn, and the simply amazing Cary Grant.
Yes, the style may be odd to modern eyes, and the dialogue comes at such a pace that it may help to put the subtitles on, but at it's heart it is very funny, very well made, and delivers everything you want it to.
Plus, it's a wonderful slice of life from a by-gone age, and a chance to see two true movie stars at the top of their game. It certainly won't be to everyones tastes, but on a rainy afternoon in winter this may be just what the doctor ordered.
