Review of Bringing Out the Dead (1999) by Lafe B — 18 Aug 2009
A solid story marred by the man at the helm. Marty actually ruins this whole production. I know I'd get flamed at every film school in the country for that but it's simply the truth. He's way too out of his element, trying to be weird and symbolic.
He can't do it, atleast not convincingly. The cast is solid and I'm sure they did whatever Marty said. Ving Rhames shines here as the highlight of the movie. It becomes instantly dull when he's gone.
Oh well. Hope some director decides to step to the plate and try this again. I'd really like to see a good version of this story.
