Review of Brimstone (2016) by Michelle S — 14 Mar 2017

This is a very twisted, demented western film that is told in reverse chronological order. It's basically about a girl named Liz (Fanning) and exploring the history she has with the scary, freaky preacher (Guy Pearce). You can see the turns coming from a mile away, but overall I enjoyed this movie. It has some problems, it's not the perfect movie. The majority of the characters seemed pretty One-note and the final 10 minutes were a little disappointing. But I would re-watch this movie. I liked Liz's character. I thought the preacher was a scary SOB and Guy Pearce was super good in this movie.

Kit Harrington was also in this movie. He was good in his role. Out of the entire film, his character's relationship with the girl seemed most out of place and it had zero pay off. Harrington's character could have been erased and it wouldn't have changed anything about the film. Regardless, I liked him and I didn't mind the fact that his side plot was added. Overall, this was probably a 3 star movie, but I'm adding a full star for Guy Pearce and Dakota Fanning and the girl who plays Johanna. They were all great.

Edit: completely forgot to mention, this movie is first and deals with some pretty taboo subject matters. If you don't like seeing dead babies, dying animals or don't like sexual taboos, do not, I repeat, do NOT watch this film. If you are at all easily offended, do not watch this film.
