Review of Brighton Rock (2010) by Damian B — 05 Feb 2011
Decent British film noir, with some good performances from the lead actors.
Andy Serkis is excellent, although as is often the case, you don't realise it is Andy Serkis until you see the end credits. He truly is a most versatile actor.
John Hurt reprises the role he played in 42 inch chest, without the swearing this time. Phil Davis gets to ride along Brighton sea front on a scooter with a gang of Mods again more than 30 years on from Quadrophenia. Maurice Roëves turns in an excellent cameo. Ultimately this is another example of a remake that fails to improve on the original, but worth your attention for all that.
