Review of Brighton Rock (2010) by Ruhan R — 08 Sep 2011
Never saw the original version, so no comparisons made here. I'm sure that Greene's novel was a spectacular one, but it was not done justice by this film. The premise of the film was perfect for a smashing gangster flick, but the focus was solely driven towards Pinkie's relationship with Rose.
I think that if this film had some more mob-based dialogues and gangster action it would have been a lot more entertaining. I understand that it was a key point in the story but the rocky romance between Pinkie and Rose really subtracted from the rest of the story.
The acting wasn't a problem at all, sets and costumes looked good too. I just think that with some tweaking the script could have been a lot greater.
