Review of Brighton Rock (2010) by Nicole M — 03 Jun 2012
I have been meaning to see the original for years, still have not got around to seeing it so I cant compare the two movies. I did enjoy this and found Sam Riley and Andrea Riseborough to be brilliant in their roles as Pinkie the murderous gangster and Rose the poor shy girl who gets tricked into falling in love with him after being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
This film was set against the back drop of the brighton riots in the 1960s between the mods and the rockers which was famously quite brutal, but here you can see it was nowhere near as brutal as some of the other things already going on in brighton at that time.
The original is not set in the 1960s and so they have tried to update it here, which I think works really well.
