Review of Bright (2017) by Sharang T — 31 Jan 2018
This film truly highlights the absolute uselessness of film critics. The disparity in critical ratings and audience enjoyment speaks volumes. I guess enjoying the hell out of this movie makes me one of the heathen "lowest common denominator" peasants that critics thumb their nose at, but if you're so snobbish that you can't find some genuine enjoyment in this movie, then I consider it an honor and a privilege to be one of the peasants.
It had some flaws, like the hilariously inept federal agents pulled straight from a slapstick comedy (they frequently seem to forget about the guns in their hands - though to be fair, if they had actually shot all the bad guys, there wouldn't be much of a movie left over), but overall I enjoyed the fun if formulaic plot and the extremely unique combination of fantasy and the modern world.
It's a movie that's formulaic in some ways and experimental in others, and damn it, I enjoyed it.
