Review of Bright (2017) by Holly C — 12 Feb 2018
For a film that was so well advertised and promising it lacks in basically anything. You don't care about the world they're showing or the characters or the plot. By the time you get into the main plot you're already bored of the cliches, politics, and general focus on an\ything uninteresting in this world.
They tried to cover a lot of ground in this film. And it ended in only seeing tiny aspects of everything. Which makes the film not only difficult to get into, but also gives it an empty and forced feeling.
This ilm would have been so so so much better as a tv series or even a trilogy. There was just too much all at once and it needed time to breathe and develop. Interesting to get bored at a film that has so much going on, but its difficult to care about this film at all.
It spends more time trying to create parallels with anti-racist ideas than it doe giving the characters any personal development with the exception of one back story that makes little to no difference apart from making the film even faster in pace.
Disapointing.
