Review of Bright (2017) by Mrflankster — 23 Dec 2017
NOTE: There is already a sequel in the works!!!
Onto my thoughts... This should prove to ALL that critics are paid. You have a disaster of a movie called, "Star Wars, The Last Jedi" (My heart still is broken with disappointment), that gets praise from professional critics, but to the consumer, it's a disaster. Then comes along "Bright." Critics immediately tear it apart, while consumers praise it. Movies/studios that are tied to box office money are able to pay critics to give praise. It's in the best interest of professional critics to tear down major movies like "Bright" that are "free" on Netflix, in hopes that the trend doesn't continue and gain steam. The professional critic needs movies to go through the traditional theater process so that the studios can "float" them some cash to write good reviews.
"Bright," while it has it's flaws, is a great movie. I'm SO happy to see that they are already signed up for a SEQUEL! I hope they go deeper into the lore and reduce the number of F-bombs. I think this movie has more "F" words than 90% of the movies out there, which is unnecessary. Other than that, the concept is great. I love the humor and the potential for the future is enormous.
As with any movie, don't read the professional critic reviews. Stick with consumer reviews. What's more entertaining? A modern day fantasy, Lethal Weapon... Or an old Princess Leia having a "Superman" moment in space within a movie that has a plot line we have seen already in "The Empire Strikes Back?" At least "Bright" is new a fresh.
