I think the low ratings for this film are indicative of movie critics being more and more disconnected from general public opinion, as seen in the Audience score.

I thought the movie was interesting specifically being a tabletop gamer where I have played a few urban fantasy games. It's refreshing to see this "new" concept come to Hollywood. I think more time could have been invested in explaining to people how magic works in this universe, and maybe explain the history of orcs, centaurs, and other magical creatures. But being an action and fantasy movie fan, I was genuinely entertained watching this and I am smirking at all of the articles coming out "Oh GOD there's going to be a Bright sequel." Yes, there is, because it did well and the general public LIKED IT. I look forward to it, too.
