Review of Bright (2017) by Amrithril T — 24 Dec 2017
Simply fantastic!
An urban LOTR meets Fifth Element fantasy, with a little bit of To Kill a Mockingbird-type social commentary thrown into it that makes us reflect the modern day issues. I came here from the WIll Smith and Superwoman Lily Singh collab, and was curious enough to check out the trailer and give it a go. I have to say that I was very surprised to see such a negative rating on RT by the professional critics, vs the audience reviews that have gave it a whopping 89%. These days I often check the audience review more than the RT official ratings because most of the time they reflect things I would truly enjoy. I guess you could say I'm one of the masses but I'd rather wear that badge proud and loud that to discourage movies like these, which are truly diamonds in the rough.
And what diamonds in the rough they are, with the sudden world turned-upside-down, resulting in an unexpected trio, plenty of evil and self-serving gangs after the unfortunate ruffians caught in this mix. I am biased, as I absolutely love Urban fantasy genre of series meeting modern day world,.
peppered with a lot of well-placed humours (like Buffy or the UK version of Being Human).
To those who chose to read the reviews, I say give this action movie a go on a night you'd feel like you're keen to be transported to an alternate version of our world, but with orcs, fairies and elves (and dragon cameo!).
